Shot Peening and Fatigue Life in Springs

Why does shot peening matter?

Fatigue damage most often begins at the wire surface. Shot peening creates controlled compressive residual stresses at the surface, helping delay crack initiation and improve fatigue life. Maktel applies this process in-house to suitable springs; for high-cycle products, the process is run directly under Maktel’s own control.
