Sustainability in spring manufacturing

Under its ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, Maktel runs waste management, recycling, energy efficiency and water-saving practices. It develops its production processes to use natural resources efficiently and reduce environmental impact, regularly monitoring and evaluating its environmental performance against annual targets.

How production waste is managed

Metal, oil and oily waste, chemical waste, packaging, cardboard, paper and domestic waste are separated by type. Hazardous and chemical waste is safely stored in controlled areas and handed over only to authorised organisations; recyclable waste is directed to appropriate recycling channels. Scrap metal is separated from other waste and sent into the recycling system — around 10% of the scrap metal generated by production activities is recovered.

Energy efficiency and water saving

Maktel applies LED lighting, high-efficiency motors and equipment, compressor optimisation, automatic shutdown systems and energy consumption monitoring. Electricity consumption is continuously monitored and reviewed monthly; operational adjustments and employee briefings address unnecessary or unusual consumption. Water consumption is also tracked regularly, with saving practices and employee briefings aimed at preventing unnecessary use.

Planned environmental projects

Maktel aims to cover part of its electricity use from renewable sources through solar power generation. Collecting and reusing rainwater is also among the planned projects, with a significant part of the system infrastructure already prepared.

How environmental performance is tracked

Environmental impacts are measured and recorded; indicators are tracked under ISO 14001 and new environmental targets are set each year. Authorised firms periodically measure and check noise, air emissions and related environmental parameters.

Packaging and environmental training

Recyclable cardboard and similar packaging are preferred for shipments, and suitable wooden pallets are reused. Employees receive training every six months on energy saving, water use, waste separation and environmental awareness. The green areas and gardens at the Istanbul production campus give employees a more natural working environment.
